I offer three levels of clinics that build upon each other from basic to advanced. Points taught in previous clinics carry over to the next level so they must be attended in order. I designed my system this way to keep all students progressing at the same pace so you can all get more out of your time spent in training. Many times even some of the most advanced horseman and barrel racers can benefit from going back, practicing, and perfecting a basic concept. So I ask everyone to leave their previous ideas at the gate, and come with an open mind, a ready ear and a willingness to learn, break habits, correct mistakes, and troubleshoot week areas.

Level One Clinic:

This clinic follows my basic foundation exercises and drills followed by barrel work and fundamentals of the barrel pattern. I want to share with you my "less is more" technique and my 5 basic tools to get you started on your way to success! I will evaluate every horse (lameness, body conditioning, saddle fit, nutrition, shoeing, and rider evaluation) and rider, and  teach you the steps it takes to keep your horse going. This clinic is great for young horses getting started to seasoned horses and all different levels of riders.

Level Two Clinic:

In order to attend Group Two clinic, you must have attended the Group One Clinic.

I have designed Group Two clinic to be more focused on advanced drills, problem solving (diving in, swinging butt, not moving forward around a barrel, ducking, bowing out, not running across the pen, etc...) , alleyway issues, arena set-up, correct body position, rider timing, and my easy 3 point system on how to move around a barrel. It is important that you follow up with the drills I give you in the Group One Clinic to be productive in the Group Two Clinic. This clinic is great for young horses in training, seasoned horses, and all different levels of riders.

Level Three Clinic:

Group Three Clinic is an ADVANCED Clinic only taking 6-10 participants depending if it is a one day or two day clinic. This clinic is fast paced, and it is important that participants attended a Group One and Two Clinic before Advancing to Group Three Clinic. This clinic is for seasoned older horses. Some points that we will be hitting on are; how to keep your older horse fresh and running, how to tune the older horse, advanced drills, suppling exercises, rider timing, and much much more!

Whats makes Melanie different than other trainers and clinicians?

  • Melanie was a certified instructor for the Army, holding several training courses in the field and classroom environment for the Army's Digitized Battlefield. This already puts her above and beyond other clinicians, she knows how to get her points across smoothly.
  • Melanie has a very unique style that is easy to learn and works well on most all horses. She is very patient with each person/horse and can get a point across several different ways to meet the individuals needs.
  • Melanie came from a English and Reining background where she learned how to properly collect a horse, propel a horse forward, soften up a face and sides, and get into the mind of each animal. She is very in tune and in harmony with horses.
  • Melanie wants to teach you and give you her knowledge. She is an open book, easy to talk to, and is always ready to give info when asked. She is a straight forward person.
  • Melanie takes the time to explain each exercise or movement she gives you so you know exactly why you are doing it, and the short and long term effects it will have.
  • Melanie is an outstanding horsewoman, and her ability to collect a horse up around a turn is like no other, she would like to teach you how she does it.
  • Melanie also stands out from most by her ability to get a horse so consistent in the pattern anyone can jump on and ride them.
  • Melanie knows everyone is different and learns at their own pace, so she takes the time with each individual to help them in the learning process. Melanie has created different exercises to help with body control, timing with your horse, and feel to help each rider get in harmony with their partner.
  • Melanie is also a great motivator, she knows just how much to push a participant to help them get to their next goal.
  • Melanie is also very goal oriented, she accomplishes small goals first, with a big goal in mind. Accomplishing the small goals will help you get to the big goal faster with less road blocks.
